SIPE was founded in October 1959 by Professor Robert Volmat, under the Honorary Presidency of Professor Jean Delay (Clinic of Mental and Brain Diseases, Sainte-Anne Hospital, Paris), during the 1st International Congress of Art Psychopathology of Verona, bringing together nine already existing national societies.
